It is surprisingly easy to generate a lot of MIDI data. For instance, many keyboards have aftertouch; a feature that measures how hard you press on a key as you hold it down and feeds that information into the data stream. If you hit a chord and wiggle your wrists, you might generate several thousand bytes of data. This data may be vital, or it may be useless, depending on exactly how other instruments in the MIDI chain are voiced. When the data stream gets too full, bizarre things begin to happen.
